HAPPY HALLOWEEN!

The pumpkins my boyfriend and I carved for this year's Halloween were indeed a success! The neighbors seemed to enjoy them, and I thought I would put them up here for all of you. The Spock pumpkin was carved using a template from PinkRaygun.com, the Star Trek insignia pumpkin was carved from a template I threw together on photoshop, and the Superman pumpkin done by Andy was drawn and carved free hand! What a talented lad! Below are the pumpkins along with their respective carving templates. Enjoi!

Note: This is an extremely difficult pumpkin to carve due to the small lettering. Carving such small pieces causes the letters to fall off. If you do decide to attempt it, and a piece or two falls off (as it did with our pumpkin) simply pin it together. We used 0.7mm pencil lead!

You've got to check out the latest DVD geeks video correspondance of the 2007 Las Vegas Star Trek convention. My friends and I were gettin' drunk down at quarks (See August 20th post) when we were interviewd by the DVD geeks' televixen to be in their newest video. They finally posted it on their website and YouTube, and we are certainly a highlight of the event.

Here is what the video's description reads:
Mary, the DVD Geeks Televixen, gets the lowdown on what happens when the convention closes. Fans cut loose with high-powered drinks at Quark's bar, parties galore and celebrity encounters. We bump into our friends Chase Masterson, Connor Trinneer, Dominic Keating and the incomparable George Takei.
The first in a series from our 2007 convention coverage - more videos to come!

The Best Word Book Ever, 1963 and 1991

Through the magic of del.icio.us bookmarks, I stumbled upon a rather interesting flikr photo set the other day. It is a comparison of Richard Scary's book, "The Best Word Book Ever", from 1963 -- the original version -- and 1991 -- the revised version. It is interesting how the changes in society and the world have changed what people feel are appropriate children's book contents. Take a look. Also, be sure to note the boxed commentary which are often quite hilarious.
